Some people come to AI through technology. I came through language.
Two decades of writing, editing and communication work across corporate boardrooms, government reports and a master’s degree in journalism taught me something important:
Clarity is rare. And it matters more than most people realise.
The tools change. That doesn’t.
When AI arrived, I was curious before I was cautious. I could see both its potential and its limitations, and that felt like useful territory for a writer and editor to explore.
Today, my work combines communication, education and movement to help people feel clearer, more capable and less overwhelmed by modern life.

My father, Johan, taught me that curiosity doesn’t retire. At 84, he was studying machine learning and building an onion planter; not for profit, but because the problem was interesting and unsolved.
When I complained that the world was overwhelming me with information, he said something I haven’t forgotten:
‘Information is useless without experience.‘
You can read everything about riding a bicycle. Without the wobbles and the falling off, you’ll still land on your backside.

I bring the experience of working with language, communication and rapidly changing technology, of watching AI get things spectacularly wrong as well as surprisingly right—so that others don’t have to start from scratch.
Your judgement, experience and curiosity still matter enormously.
You just need someone willing to explain things clearly.
The name: Ascension

Ascension is a small volcanic island in the South Atlantic—remote, unusual and memorable—and it’s where I’m from.
It also means rising, growing and evolving, which felt like an appropriate name for work centred around learning, clarity and change.
The ethos
‘Remember that literacy is an accident of birth and does not confer superior wisdom or virtue.’ – Janet Mackenzie, The Editor’s Companion.
No jargon. No condescension. Just clear thinking, honestly shared.
